About Cinemomma Pictures
Cinemomma Pictures is a collective of extremely brilliant filmmakers, graphic designers, educators, musicians, social workers, parents, homeschoolers, and activists. Founded in 2004 by Camille Holder-Brown, Cinemomma Pictures is here to be a voice for empowering families on the big screen. A mother herself of three small children she homeschool’s with husband, Omar Brown, she knows the challenges that many parents of color face educating and raising children in our society. There are a plethora of shows out now that are finally beginning to talk about parenting, however shows about families of color written and made by families of color are just starting to have a little voice. Anyone who knows Camille knows she is about her family. Period! no pun intended. Why is something that is so important, like raising a family a topic that we tend to pay little attention to and requires no formal training. Well, what if a film could bring together veteran parents, like our grandparents, expecting parents, new parents, wannabee parents and single folks too and make us laugh and truly reflect on how we our guiding the next generations. Are we teaching them to be loving, critical thinkers, to grow their own food? What are we teaching out children and what are the major influences on our children besides us as parents? Can we empower one another and share resources? Of course we can, so. . . “Parenting 101″ is a film in pre-production that we have been writing and developing for the past couple years that will include a feature film and webisodes. Both projects will be used for outreach to discuss how we are parenting as people of color.
“A Period Piece” is a film dedicated and made to serve as tool to empower young girls specifically and teach them about puberty. However, the screening is just the icebreaker, the film has been used by hundreds of educators, mentors, parents, etc. to teach girls how to deconstruct media ads aimed at young girls. Everyone is so focused on young children and teenagers that “tweens” are a voice neglected and so in need of guidance.

What else does Cinemomma Pictures do you say? Well we get on board projects we believe in and support them in any way we can. We have worked with other production companies such as Red Wall Productions, God Bless the Child Productions, Vigilant Cinema Productions, and Middle Passage Filmworks on features, documentaries, commercials, and short films. We support Lesedi Film Center, which is a comprehensive learning center for high school aged students (13-19) to learn the skill, discipline and professionalism of film production through a series of after-school workshops. Lesedi is a place where students can put their creative ideas into practice.
Additionally, Camille was selected to participate in the National Black Program Consortium’s (NBPC) New Media Institute in both Mississippi and Atlanta, where she received information about producing new media projects, like the parenting webisodes.

But wait there is more! Cinemomma Pictures supports teaching very young people film by supporting programs such as Parents As Primary Teachers, Inc. filmmaking workshop “8 Million Stories” . Camille taught a ten week workshop in Brooklyn that was free to the community for young children to learn filmmaking, wherein the screening culminated in a red carpet event at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) Rose Cinemas.
We here at Cinemomma Pictures know not only does it take a “village to raise a child”, shoot it takes a village to make a film. So please support our efforts and we will keep giving birth to new ideas to empower ourselves and our community. Power to the Parents!
